THE BRIEF
Kris Emery is an Editor for Entrepreneurs on their journey to authorship. To give them a tool and general advice about getting started with writing, she created and wrote an ebook for such clients.
The book was a standalone project with its own sales page but still had to fit into Kris overall brand which is bright, positive and feminine.
To read her own take on the journey of writing the book and producing it (with her own editor and me as the book designer), please read it here:
THE PROCESS
THE INNER LAYOUT & DESIGN
First I started to create symbols for each chapter that was dominated by rather abstract concepts, which I wanted to enhance visually.
Left are the doodles that led to the symbols which were incorporated in the chapter title pages, patterns and the sales page (later on).
THE BOOK COVER DESIGN
The cover was set up from line drawings for the “office equipment” and went through several stages of more or less elements and colours.
THE RESULTS
The final result was a book that worked on digital devices, but just as well when printed out, which many clients would do due to several exercises inside.
The design was praised by many clients and readers and assisted in easy digestion of partially complex content.
Additionally, the book design helped create a more exciting sales page as the symbols and colours could easily be integrated.
