THE BRIEF
Carol Kretschmer is a wellness educator, physiotherapist, psychic channel and now author. She has had a long journey from chronic illness to wellness and shares her story in a biography/ health and wellness educational book. We wanted to appeal to people who were on a similar journey and need some guidance and help in the process to getting better. The audience is as varied as the world of health, so we needed to appeal to a wider variety of people and more speak to a “state of mind” than some outer, non-personal metrics.
I also was tasked to create the interior for this book to match the cover. It was to be published on both Amazon KDP and Ingram Spark.
THE PROCESS
THE COVER
I created some very different main concepts for Carol, each focussing on a different concept around “wellbeing”. Some were more abstract, like the idea of layers to your inner self – concept 1 – and others more symbolic, like a glowing dragonfly. When making concepts I also include ideas for colours, font styles, relevant illustrations etc. All of them were circling around the idea of how to find to your inner self and wellbeing.
Carol settled pretty quickly on the idea of concept number 4 and it actually never changed much in the final version.
THE BOOK INTERIOR
The interior of the book is a reflection of it’s cover: Elegant but modern feel with a good amount of white space and decorative elements. The dragonfly was important to the client and since it did not make it on the cover, it was instead included into the book interior as a recurring symbol. This way, we could “have it all… ”
THE RESULTS
The final cover has a mix of positive energy through the soft colours, but still serious feel to it which is achieved through the illustration and text. The fonts support this, by being modern (subtitle fonts and colours) but still on a more serious note with the serif font of the title. This way, both goals could be achieved: Reach people who were on a journey to health which can be serious and tough, but also coming from a positive angle with hope and healing.
The book was successfully relaunched on both Amazon platforms and Ingram Spark. The client was really happy about the book launch and readers seem to connect with it too!
