I have been asked a while ago if I would want to contribute to an auction exhibition for Amnesty International where each artist is given a matchbox to decorate however he/she would like to and I was all in!
It took me quite a while to come up with my final result because even though I knew I wanted to create something that is more 3 dimensional and not just a flat painting, I did want to create something that delights and is a bit of a discovery as well. It was kind of hard to come up with a concept that was simple enough for me to execute well and at the same time fun to look at and use.
My final idea included a bit of paper art and draws some ideas from pop up techniques. I wanted to make people open the box and get an additional experience in form of a surprise that enhances the main design on top of the box.
I also included my love for patterns by giving every paper flower its own pattern and design. After quite a bit of fiddling and some trials and some errors, I finished with this:
As you can see the drawer opens to pop up and unfold some more flowers on the inside that play off the other ones on the top. I think the colour combo of black, gold and pink will become one of my favourites!
I will bring up the auction link when the exhibition starts, in case any one is interested to bid on it or any other artist’s work!
